The village of Mells on the road out of Frome towards Kilmersdon has another feather in its tourist cap.

It has been voted as one of the best in a list of 50 villages to live in the UK by the Sunday Times. The only other village in Somerset to get such praise was Nether Stowey, near Bridgwater.

It comes after the leading upmarket travel magazine Conde Naste Traveller listed Mells in the top 20 prettiest villages in the UK and Ireland back in October 2020.

The advice in that magazine was for visitors to : "Meander through this sleepy Somerset village and marvel at the 15th-century New Street, which runs to St Andrew's Church, where the great war poet Siegfried Sassoon is buried. Set off with a map in hand to explore the surrounding rolling hills and build up an appetite for a wood-fired pizza at the Walled Garden, before crashing at the village's The Talbot Inn, with its roll-top baths and vintage Welsh rugs, or Soho House's original rural outpost at Babington House, which is a five-minute drive away. "

The delights of Mells have not been overlooked, with several famous residents, including Nub News understands, the bass guitarist for The Darkness, Frankie Poullain. We hope we will find out more, since we were reliably informed that they were filming their latest video for a new release in the Walled Garden last week.
