IN PICTURES: Shocking photos of the early morning vehicle fire in Frome as details emerge

By Susie Watkins 18th May 2021

Shocking photos have been revealed showing the devastating early morning car fire in Frome.

The fire service were on the scene at St John's Road in the early hours of May 18 following numerous calls to emergency services.

Police are still looking into the incident but are understood to be investigating whether the driver (or drivers) of one car crashed into a parked vehicle, before driving off.

The owner of one of the vehicles, who contacted Nub News, and was woken by the noise of the emergency services at work, took a very calm approach. He was in bed when the crash happened, and although he is now facing a big headache in terms of insurance claims, was grateful that no one was hurt.

The police have been contacted for details of any investigation.

Earlier Nub News reported, based on the fire service briefing, that it was both occupiers of both vehicles involved in the road traffic accident. We are very happy to clarify that it was only the driver of the one vehicle missing and the other vehicle was parked up behind the car which was then alight.

Police later gave us this statement: "We're investigating an incident that happened in the St Johns Road area of Frome in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday 18 May).

"Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service called us at 4.58am to alert us to a car fire they were dealing with. The vehicle involved was a red Ford Fiesta and a second vehicle was also damaged.

"House-to-house and CCTV enquiries will be carried out.

"Anyone with information that could assist our investigation should call 101 and give the call-handler reference number 5221108266."
