Italian fixture closes as Frome's owner retires to Kilve

Where will Fromies go for world-class cannelloni now? That was the cry when a stalwart of the town's restaurant scene decided to hang up his apron and retire after 29 years serving up authentic Italian cuisine. Luigi Violini, along with his wife have been running La Bisalta restaurant on Vicar Street since 1999 and before that other restaurants. Although they loved the business, and have won many fans for their traditional Italian dishes, with Luigi approaching 70, the couple decided it was time to retire. Luigi told Nub News: " There have been many sad customers and yes, even some in tears. We are very sorry to be leaving. We have been trying to sell as an ongoing concern, but unfortunately no one wanted a restaurant." So the site is being turned into a home, with the Italian couple, who first arrived in the UK in 1971, heading to live in the coastal heritage site of Kilve, near Minehead, in the middle of December. Luigi added: " My wife she has said to continue cooking with a pop up restaurant sometimes, but I think I want a rest. Twenty nine years has been a lot of hard work, I have cooked a lot of cannelloni. It is time to take things a bit easier."
