A close to the centre road in Frome will no longer be free to park on from the end of the summer.
Residents of Weymouth Road will be getting permits but for visitors, who were used to being able to park for free, will need to pay if they want to stay.
A Somerset County Council spokesperson said: "As part of the Weymouth Road parking scheme we have installed one pay and display machine near the entrance to the park. The scheme is being introduced following consultation with residents.
"Users of the park will be able to park for up to 20 minutes without charge or for up to 2 hours at a rate of £1.00 per hour.
"These controls will deter all day park by non-residents and provide turnover for the public wishing to visit the park whilst parking in Weymouth Road.
"The proposals for Somerset Road are not being implemented and will be reviewed in light of feedback once the Weymouth Road is live later this summer and the proposed Frome school street within Somerset Road is introduced."
