Local author officially turns page on new school library in Frome

By Susie Watkins 16th Jul 2021

The children at Vallis First School were thrilled to start a new chapter in their enthusiastic reading journey in their stunning new library.

The library was officially opened by the hugely popular local children's author, Michelle Robinson who has written over 40 books. She told an enthralled young audience about her life as a writer ( I'm often asked this question. My answer is always the same: it feels BRILLIANT) and read some of her books to them.

The children in Y1 and 2 have been learning about castles in their history topic and so were especially excited to hear part of her exciting book 'Do Not Disturb the Dragons.'

The children loved coming to school dressed as a word. Children came dressed as the words camouflaged, scientific, love, illuminated, glittery, tropical, magical, wild and many other exciting words.

It was a full day of book-related activities planned to expand pupils' vocabulary and ignite their love of words. Book treasure hunts challenged children to find the longest word, the most unusual word and the most common word, in all their favourite books.
