Local elections the counting is about to get underway for Frome

Update: Ros Wyke the current leader of Mendip has just been re-elected for the Mendip West divisions with 2232 of the votes (Liberal Democrat) along with Heather Shearer also Liberal Democrat with 2124.
The first results from across Mendip were two Liberal Democrats elected in Street promising a "fresh start". Simon Carswell ( 1661 votes) and Liz Leyshon (1896) were elected.
Across Somerset as a whole: 14 seats out of 110 have been won so far. A party needs 56 seats for a majority

There is a high turnout for at least one of the Frome wards in the latest local elections with Frome North showing a turnout of 43.7% .
The overall turnout for the elections across the region is 39.3 - broadly in line with previous voting patterns.
Meantime turnout in Frome East was slightly below that at 34.3% and in the third Frome ward, West, the turnout was 38.5%.
The highest turn out across Mendip was in Wells 43.8.
Not every local authority seat is up for election in England - although more than 4,000 councillors will be elected across the country.
The first two seats have just been declared for the new Somerset authority - two Liberal Democrats Cllrs elected in Brympton.
In total the number of votes being counted will be In England:
- 144 councils
- 4,411 seats
- Elections for most seats were last held in 2018
The Liberal Democrats are hoping to take Somerset council at about 4pm, which would indicate that the party has a decent chance in the upcoming Tiverton and Honiton byelection.
