The Frome election results are in:

Frome West turnout: 38.5% turnout and the two Green party candidates were elected. Martin Dimery with 1,604 votes and Michael Dunk with 1,306.

Cllr Dunk told the Shepton Mallet crowd : " We don't have much money we have a fantastic team and we worked hard. We look forward to representing the electors of Frome."

Moments later Frome East (34.3% turnout) declared and a clearly delighted Shame Collins (1171) and Helen Kay (1103) took the green banner to the stage. Cllr Collins thanked the election team and the other candidates. He told the room; " We are hopefully part of a big change coming. We are just two or three years from a tipping point of climate change when there is no way back."

The Frome North turnout was the highest of the three town wards: 43.7% turnout .

Adam Boyden won for the Liberal Democrats with 1437 votes, with the second councillor position to Dawn Denton Conservative, with 1004 votes.

By midday : 26 seats out of 110 had been won - with no gains to the Greens and the Liberal Democrats heralding what they called a Somerset gold rush. A party needs 56 seats for a majority.

Earlier - the current leader of Mendip Council Ros Wyke (Lib Dem) was elected with 2,232 votes in the Mendip West ward and the former MP Tess Munt (Lib Dem) was elected with 2507 votes in Wells.

One big win elsewhere in Somerset the Liberal Democrats, winning both seats in Curry Rivel and Langport, defeating the incumbent Conservative council members.

Shepton Mallet elected one of the few Conservatives, Bente Height got 950 votes the second councillor for the ward after Liberal Democrat Martin Lovell, with 1196 votes.

These were the most important elections for five decades, those elected today will serve in the new Somerset unitary authority.

These are the full results for all the Frome wards.
