A quiz master who has been responsible for furrowed brows all over pubs in Frome - has gone virtual with his services due to the coronavirus,

Sam Munnings was an expert quiz host who you might have seen at the Cross Keys at Blatchbridge, the Cordero Lounge in Frome, The George at Nunney and The Woolpack Inn in Beckington.

When coronavirus struck and the pubs and clubs closed, he faced losing all his income, but being clever of course, he came up with an answer.

Sam a former teacher who lives in Nunney has come up with an innovative way to save his business and encourage people to be sociable when they can't go out.

Let's Get Quizzical UK are now hosting evening virtual quizzes using the Zoom online conferencing app.

And this coming Thursday (30th April) they are holding a charity quiz to raise money for Frome based charities We Hear You and Frome Birth Talk.

Household teams are asked to donate a minimum of £5 to join from their living room. The unique format of Let's Get Quizzical physical quizzes continues with a creative round as well as 'higher or lower' cards and several fun rounds including a virtual joker to double points on a round.

The charity quiz is general knowledge but the team host different themes several times a week including Disney, Harry Potter, the 90s and many others, ensuring there is something to catch every imagination.

Sam whose wife is also a teacher and co-manages Nunney Pre School, used to be busy with pub quizzes at over 30 venues from Frome to Bristol and across Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.

He explains the idea:

"Our quizzes are fun and interactive and I wanted to find a way to carry that on whilst people are social distancing, so I have worked out a way to transfer that format online with the use of a video conferencing app. We like to think we are putting the social into social distancing!"
