Lunchtime opera concert to be held in Great Elm near Frome this week

A lunchtime opera concert will be held near Frome this week.

The concert will be held at Jackdaws, in Great Elm, on Friday September 20 at 12.15pm.

The second of Jackdaws' Open Friday concerts features a selection of songs and arias from artistic director Saffron van Zwanenberg and Jackdaws' OperaPLUS alumnus Owain Browne, with Jackdaws accompanist and supporter Colin Hunt at the piano.

Saffron van Zwanenberg has been artistic director at Jackdaws since 2009. She trained at the Royal College of Music, graduating from the Opera Course with Distinction.

She maintains a successful directing career alongside her post at Jackdaws.

A graduate of the Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Owain has since studied at the Flanders Opera Studio in Ghent.

Recent performances include Luzifer in ausLICHT for Dutch National Opera at the Holland Festival, and Sulpice in Jackdaws OperaPLUS performance of The Team Mascot (also known as Donizetti's The Daughter of the Regiment).

Tickets for Friday's concert are £10 or £20 to include lunch. To book, email [email protected] or call 01373 812383.

Before the concert will be the Jackdaws Piano Club from 10am to noon, which is the chance to meet informally with like-minded pianists to play and share the pieces you are currently practising, and to play together, for £5 per session.

Also open will be the Jackdaws Cafe from 11am to 4pm serving tea, coffee, and the famous Jackdaws cake.
