Waste collections will begin from 6am next week, from Monday 19 June to Monday 26 June (inclusive).

The early starts are to help crews impacted by the hot weather conditions and to beat the potential additional traffic on the roads due to Glastonbury Festival. The early starts will help to minimise any chance of disruption to recycling, rubbish or garden waste collections across the county.

In addition to extra traffic on the roads, crews are working in increasingly hot temperatures. Waste collection is hard, physical work and early starts help limit the time crews spend working in the hottest part of the day.

Somerset Council are asking residents to put their bins out the night before to make sure they are prepared for the early start.

Somerset's waste and recycling collection crews make more than 350,000 collections a week. For more information about what happens to the recycling they collect, check the Somerset Recycling Tracker on the Somerset Council website.
