Neighbouring MP Jacob Rees-Mogg has said he "feels sorry" for Frome's David Warburton who is now in a psychiatric hospital while facing sexual harassment allegations.

The town's MP was suspended by the party ahead of claims in several newspapers that he had harassed three young women, taken drugs and had been awarded a £100,000 loan - and failed to declare it - from a Russian businessman.

An investigation is underway by parliament's Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme.

Today (April 4) Jacob Rees Mogg, who represents the neighbouring consistency to Frome, as MP for Midsomer Norton and Radstock, appeared on national radio.

He told Nick Ferrari: "I obviously feel sorry for somebody on a personal level but it's really important that the inquiry is carried out and people feel safe working in Parliament.

"There's a need for personal sympathy but there is also a need for a proper process to be followed."

Taking part in a phone-in show on LBC radio, Rees-Mogg also declined a caller's request to apologise for calling the so-called partygate Covid rule breaking claims "fluff" .

On Sunday Harriet Warburton who is the Communications Officer & Constituency PA for her husband, told Nub News that the Frome Mp had been admitted to a psychiatric hospital for " severe shock and stress." Frome Nub News was told at 14:20 pm on April 3 that there was " Nothing further to add. "
