After earlier Somerset Highways reported a conclusion of its winter work with a record year for gritting it later on April 28 said that it would return to putting out grit.

The organisation previously said it has completed a total of 66 days of cold-weather work and has additionally been called out to grit local coronavirus testing and vaccine centres.

At 17:00 on April 28 it announced that : " There is an unseasonal drop in temperature predicted for tonight. We'll see some rain showers through to 22:00, then clear, cold and dry through to morning. There will therefore be a gritting run for 03:30 on Thursday morning. "
