Plans to put in parking and waiting restrictions on four key roads in Frome have been put on hold due to public opposition.

Signs went up in early December warning that it would be permit only parking - along with parking meters for short stays - on Weymouth Road, Oakfield Road, Somerset Road and Queens Road.

The notice warned that parking permits along these roads would cost £60 a year (business permits £150) while after a free first twenty minutes parking would cost £1 an hour, to a maximum of four hours.

Those new restrictions were, it was said on the notice, were published on December 3 and due to be imposed under highway regulations in 21 days.

But now Somerset Council have told Nub News that they have had opposition to the plans along with a petition against the changes and the proposals are on hold.

A Somerset County Council spokesperson said: "Following the publication of the proposal we've had a number of objections and a petition has been handed to the Council. We will be reviewing all of these before any decision is made. "

Somerset County Council is not able to tell us when this is likely to be.
