Frome is going to lose its second yarn shop.

This shop in Badcox Frome, Town End Yarns, is closing on July 30 and moving all its sales on line. It sells socks as well as skeins of yarn and wool - in fact we have seen signs in the window saying it even buys wool.

In historical terms Frome has long been considered a wool town. In the 16th and 17th centuries it's main trade was wool, before it turned to more industrial pursuits. All around town there are legacies from those times so for instance the Black Swan Arts Centre was formerly a wool drying house,

The latest closure comes after the yarn and craft shop on Catherine Hill moved out and into premises close to Shepton Mallet. All About The Yarn moved to  Chesterblade Hills where they have more room to carry on their very popular craft workshops. They had been in Frome for four years. You can follow their news and updates on those workshops HERE and the lovely shop is still selling a huge array of colours and wools and craft sets on line.

The town is losing a lot of its heritage as a centre for cloths, linens and wool.

Back in March 2020, it was the long-standing fabric shop - now an art gallery - which moved to solely on line sales.

You can read about that HERE At the time Steve Bane Fabrics, which had been in Frome since the 1970s was planning to move into a shop in Badcox, but they later took the decision to move all sales on line.
