Frome family shop - which is literally in the fabric of the town - is on the move

A Frome shopping institution is on the move - but dressmakers and crafters don't despair - its only going a few metres up the road.

Steve Bane Fabrics, which has been selling fabrics and sewing aids for fifty years, is moving from the current premises opposite the Town Hall.

They are heading a couple minutes down the road to Badcox, Vallis Way into the former technology shop next door to McColls.

All things working well they should be in their new home in just less than a month, by 14th April.

The family business hasn't changed much in half a century and remarkably neither have some of the prices.

According to the current owner's father, who ran the shop in the sixties, a zip would cost dressmakers between one or two shillings, but Nub News is not sure of his assessment that is "pretty much what it costs today."

In 1970 if you had a pound, you would have in today's money, about £15.57, mainly due to high inflation in seventies of 6.40%. Which certainly isn't the price of a zip - we hope.
