Frome's hugely popular theatre, the Merlin, has announced that they are temporarily suspending all shows through until May.

In what they have described as a hugely difficult decision, the theatre team have also asked that supporters might consider donating the cost of their ticket, which would otherwise be refunded, to keeping theatre alive.

A spokesperson said: " Please consider donating the cost of your ticket; this will go a long, long way to ensuring our theatre survives through this very difficult time. If you are unable to do this then we can offer a credit note for a future show or refund the face value of the ticket."

The following shows have been cancelled:

17/3/20 Fidelio

1/4/20 Swan Lake

26/4/20 Five Counties Youth Festivals

9/5/20 Somerset Fellowship of Drama

As a final add the statement goes on: " We are very passionate and proud of our theatre and we are working hard to do all we can to protect the longevity of the Merlin and community arts. Thank you for your patience at this very difficult time."

The Merlin Theatre is run as a charity and there is a donate button on their home page: http://www.merlintheatre.co.uk
