Not so convenient - the toilet block August 17 in Victoria Park

At the last council meeting councillors were told that temporary toilets were being looked into to supply the busy Victoria Park following them being closed due to vandalism.

However the council has now said the costs of siting and protecting any temporary loos is too much, so there will no public conveniences in the park for many months.

Work on renovating the loos will begin on September 4 but is expected to take 12 weeks. The existing toilet block was closed due to vandalism, most recently a smashed in ceiling meaning there is water leaking in the roof and through the electrical cables rendering them unusable.

The council has admitted it is not an ideal time for one of the busiest parks in the town to be without any toilets, given the additional activities in the park for the school holidays and a newly-expanded community cafe.

On the Frome Town Council web site Councillor Mark Dorrington is quoted as saying : "We recognise that it is terrible timing in the school holidays, and we have looked into temporary loos but there is simply not a viable solution. They cost too much to protect and so instead we suggest people use the Town Hall on Monday to Friday and park users are welcome to use the Bowls Club toilets when they are open. It is a temporary situation whilst we wait for the installation of the new toilets."

The new toilet block will include a Changing Places cubicle, there will be two gender-neutral cubicles, one of which will provide disabled access and baby changing facilities. Access to the toilets will be between Mary Baily and Victoria Park for improved safety sight lines and lighting.
