According to data collected by Quotezone.co.uk, one of the UK's leading insurance comparison websites, people who normally take a trip and therefore leave their houses empty for 15 to 30 days at a time, could save 15% on their home insurance policy.

By updating their insurance policy to indicate that the property will no longer be empty for that period, these seasoned travellers could be in for some significant savings - with those who venture between 30-60 days saving over 19%.

The findings are based on a sample of over 350,000 home insurance policies collated over the last two years, and showed that even those with more conservative travelling habits could still be in for some savings. Those who holiday for 1-14 days at a time could pocket, on average, 7.5% - just by making this simple update to their policy if they don't have any plans for an autumn break this year.

In April 2020 global air traffic was down by 48%. Although this figure will have crept up over the summer, the UK continues to descend into one local lockdown after the other, and every day another country is placed on the no-fly list – making it likely air traffic figures from October to December will continue to fall.

Many homeowners wouldn't have thought about how staying at home for longer affects their policies and the money they could save as a result.

Greg Wilson, Founder of Quotezone.co.uk, comments: "It's obviously a challenging time so it's good to have the opportunity to pass on some advice on how to save.

"We would always recommend keeping your insurance provider up to speed with any changes in your circumstances – in some cases, it could help to lower your premium, as we've seen in this instance, but more importantly your policy is accurate so that it remains valid if you need to make a claim.

"Households are under a lot of financial pressure at the moment, which is why we've been digging through the data to see how they might be able to reduce their outgoings. In fact, when we created our price comparison platform we had the same aim in mind – to give customers the tools they need to find better deals on their home, car, travel and pet insurance."

Quotezone.co.uk has grown to become one of the UK's leading insurance comparison platforms - helping over 3 million users find a better deal on their insurance each year.
