The special national donation week : Organ Donation Week campaign which was due to take place 19th to 25th September has been postponed.
It has been announced that the Queen's state funeral will be happening on September 19 which will also, it has been announced by King Charles III, be a bank holiday.
Over the weekend towns and cities, including Frome, formally proclaimed him as the new king, with half-masted flags raised for the ceremony before being lowered again for the period of mourning.
A spokesman for the donation week said: " We know that many people will have put a huge amount of work into planning activity for this very important calendar moment for organ and tissue donation. We want to make sure that we can make the most of our collective efforts, by rescheduling to another date. We are working urgently to establish a new date, in agreement with the Health Departments, and we hope to bring this to you shortly. "
When Organ Donation Week does happen - organisers are asking everyone to Show Their Heart - with them asking everyone to go pink for the week.
Ideas to raise the profile of being a donor in the UK can be as simple as baking a pink cake or wearing pink socks.
They will be running a social media campaign too with #organdonation and tag us @nhsorgandonor to show off people's efforts. They hope that by asking everyone to go pink for the week even more people will see how important organ donation is, and that it's easy and quick to add their name to the NHS Organ Donor Register to help save or transform lives.
According to the latest NHS statistics there are currently 6629 people are waiting for a transplant in the UK, with 1569 having received a transplant since April 2022. (Figures from June 2022). You can check the latest numbers and find out how to sign up HERE
