Petrol hits new high

By Susie Watkins 22nd Feb 2022

Fuel prices on forecourts hit a record high February 21.

At Sainsbury's in Frome - often the cheapest in the town - they were

£1.449 @ litre. But the average across the UK qas £149.12p a litre, meaning it would cost £81.95 to fill a 55-litre family car, while diesel also reached a record at 152.6p, making a similar-sized full tank almost £84. The motorists' organisation RAC blamed the rise on profiteering by petrol retailers and stubbornly high oil prices caused by tension between Russia and Ukraine. The price of Brent crude reached a seven-year high of $97.65 (£71.91) a barrel on Tuesday. Meaning prices at the pumps are likely to rise again.
