The planning application is for a boundary wall

An application has been put in to build a timber fence along the boundary between 21 and 22 Whittox

Lane.

Planning consent is required because no. 21 (Melrose House) is a Grade II* listed building which was built in around 1690.

Planners were told that the divide is currently marked only by a low concrete retaining wall, believed to date from the late 1950s. This wall separates the side garden of no. 22 from a narrow passage within the curtilage of no. 21, giving access to Zion Path (a public footpath).

Historically, this passage provided a

pedestrian right of way in favour of 21A Whittox Lane, which lies to the rear of no. 21.

The wall formerly allowed access to no. 22

while it was in the ownership of Zion Church; but this use ceased in 2000. According to documents offered up to the planners at Mendip , the passage has

been unused in recent years and boundary wall is in poor condition.

If you want to look in more detail into the planning application it is application number 2020/0027/HSE .

- Another planning application which has been received by Mendip this week is for the installation of a through floor lift at The Old Vicarage on Vicarage Street in Frome, which is also Grade II listed building.
