The lack of post office service in Frome has been described as nothing short of dire - and it just got worse.

Customers had been able to go over to Dilton Marsh post office but that closed on December 1.

Now Frome just has the post office on the Portway, which as locals know, always busy.

As the town goes into the last posting week for Christmas there are also regular complaints about post being delayed around town, with some households saying they no longer get daily deliveries.

The post office have not confirmed that they have staffing problems, or whether, or if, a second post office might come to town.

There was a post office in the Spar on Rodden Road and although Nub News was told it was going to re-open when the shop was taken over, that still hasn't happened.

There were post office services at the former Co-op in the Westway in Frome, which carried on even after the shop itself closed, but they too stopped in September 2022.

The signs can still be seen - very faintly - on this building in Fromefield.

According to Citizens Advice across the UK 1,291 Post Offices are currently deemed 'temporarily closed', but almost six in ten of these have been shut for more than two years.

There is also a report on social media that post office deliveries in Frome are no longer daily - although Nub News has not been able to confirm that this is the case - due to staff shortages.

A resident posted : " My husband has just had to go up to the sorting office after we've had no post for a week to see what's going on to be told that they are no longer doing daily deliveries. Possibly once a week or even fortnightly, does anyone know if this is a temporary thing due to short staffing or permanent. We finally received a week's worth of post today, fortunately nothing urgent this time but people could be waiting for hospital appointments which they then miss due to not receiving their post in time. What is going on? "
