It was once the regular haunt of Frome teenagers wanting to hang out and enjoy a coffee some company.
But this building on Christchurch Street which once had planning for a big development, has fallen into disrepair and is attracting unwanted guests.
In the 1950s and 1960s it was a popular spot for local teenagers and was once called the West Side Stop, and from comments on social media, it was the place everyone wanted to go.
Next door to the seed and grain merchants, Moore and Sons, the cafe was apparently it where the Mods hung out , with the rival Rockers using the Wooden Spoon at the top of Stony Street in Frome.
In 2013 the site was earmarked for development. Under reference 2013/0724 plans were submitted for the conversion of what is a listed building into two dwellings and behind it, which was once the site of a printing firm, the building of eight three bedroom homes. That was refused by Mendip planners, but the developers at the time won on appeal.
But after some clearing of the site, work stopped and now locals say that it has once again become a popular spot, but perhaps not for good reasons.
Nub News has contacted one of the companies reported to be now looking after the site, but they were unable to confirm who now owns it. If you know something about it or would like to share any photos of the cafe in its busy heyday please do get in touch.
