Bakery chain Greggs is to open 100 new shops in 2021 - but is not revealing to Nub News where those might be. However the company has told us the majority will be in car access locations such as retail parks and petrol station forecourt.

Today (March 16) the chain reported its first loss for 36 years in 2020 after sales within the shops, fell by a third. In its trading statement the popular bakery said it has increased deliveries to make up for the fall.

Chief executive Roger Whiteside said that this year is looking more hopeful, with the company making " A better-than-expected start to 2021".

Sales in company-managed shops fell by more than 36% in 2020 and the company reported a pre-tax loss of £13.7m, its first since listing on the stock market in 1984.

The one hundred new shops will add to the chain's 2,078 it already operates. A spokesperson for the company's PR company declined to indicate where they might be but said: " Greggs hasn't disclosed information on new shop openings, however the majority will be in car access locations e.g. retail parks, petrol station forecourt."
