Recycling in Frome : Why it is good news for ducks

Frome's recycling centre, although closed today (January 1 2021) WILL re-open, Somerset Waste Partnership has confirmed.

The company has confirmed that all 16 recycling sites remain open under coronavirus Tier4 restrictions - which Frome moved into on December 31.

That is a big relief to a local duck keeper who contacted Nub News to find out the details on the opening hours. We travelled past the site on New Year's Eve and confirmed that it was indeed open under the new restrictions.

She explained how she needs to use the site to recycle the duck waste - although it is really valuable fertiliser.

She told Nub News : " We use reusable bags to put their waste in...we take it to the tip and empty it in the garden waste bit, so it's a bit of a panic wen we go into a lock down.

" In the first lock down in March we had bags piling up and I had to go longer periods cleaning them out. "

The ducks are a pair of Khaki Campbells and two Cayugas which have stunning iridescent feathers - green and blue - in sunlight.

No one explains to them about coronavirus lockdowns and, as their owner told us, they still have to be mucked out.

" But it is a shame that people on allotments don't know about it as it's a very good fertiliser."
