There have been some amendments and changes to the plans for the last major redevelopment in Frome - Saxonvale.

The active planning application has been described as the last big opportunity to define what a town centre should look like.

The new plans have now been amended and include changes to the main route through the site Garsdale Avenue. A central median strip added to slow traffic and the bends have been widened to enable large vehicles to safely navigate the bends.

The amendments will be considered at the next Frome Town Council Planning committee meeting on 16th July.

The amended plans are here: the Mendip site

Mendip District Council bought the site in 2018 in what they described as a "bold and unusual move".

The Council purchased two adjacent plots of land that were owned by Notts Industries and Terramond, which combined amounts to around 9.2 acres of land.

The vision, as described on the Mendip web site is for; 'A generational opportunity to deliver an exemplar development on the banks of the River Frome. High quality design taking the historic grain of Frome as its starting point, and delivering a vibrant, mixed use neighbourhood, with flexible commercial/ employment space, high quality public realm, and homes for all ages'.
