The Frome Town Council public meeting on Saxonvale was packed to the rafters with nearly 100 residents attending to find out more about the proposed development.

The meeting was intended to help people understand some of the detail behind the scheme and began with Mel Clinton from Nash Partnership outlining the vision for the area.

There was an emphasis on the creation of green streets to increase well-being and the encouragement of sustainable travel in order limit traffic issues.

There was an also a chance for the public to ask open questions and Acorn Property Group were on hand to respond.

Frome Civic Society, Frome Chamber of Commerce and Fair Housing for Frome shared their views on what they feel is most important to the town and the local community. These included social housing, green corridors, commercial space and traffic management.

Mayor of Frome Mark Dorrington said: "We are delighted that so many people were able to attend and make the most of this opportunity to hear from those involved in the project and discuss what it means for the area.

"Engaging residents to feel empowered to comment on the planning application to Mendip District Council will mean a greater number of voices are heard."

Frome Town Council were particularly keen to hear people's concerns and what they felt the positive aspects of the development were. A round table discussion encouraged all those in the room to list both their likes and dislikes.

The feedback and comments will be circulated to Mendip District Council, Acorn Property Group and to those who attended the meeting and asked to be kept informed.

It will also be considered as part of the town council's formal response, which will be presented at the next Town Matters meeting at 7pm tonight (19 June) at Frome Town Hall.

The planning application is with Mendip District Council and those still wishing to comment can do so on Mendip District Council's website via the following link https://tinyurl.com/saxonvale.
