Selwood Village - Frome takes a look at the detailed plans

Residents in Frome have been given more details about the controversial Selwood Garden Village development, which will see over 1500 new homes built to the south of the town. An exhibition by developers Land Value Alliance (LVA), who are backed by a landowner consortium, installed a roadshow of the plans, which are expected to be formally submitted in January, at Rook Lane Chapel.

Developers insist that their designs offer a desperately needed and sympathetic development. The proposals were first revealed in February 2018 in response to Mendip Council's local plan which made a case for a further 2,200 homes in Frome.

Critics claim it is too big, it will lead to traffic chaos, and, while the site is not in green belt, it will ruin the rural location.

A complete set of boards showing planning maps, detailed photographs and Somerset-wide statistics about housing needs, were on show at Rook Lane. The developers insist that the building work will also create over 1200 jobs, including over 300 white collar posts, and they claim to have the environmental impact at the heart of what they build.More details at www.selwoodgardenvillage.com, or you can submit your opinions on the plans to [email protected]

The exhibition will be open for public scrutiny again on Saturday 14 December from 11 am until 3pm.
