The entrance to the former Shoe Zone shop on the main road in Frome was boarded up (February 19) leading to a flurry of social media excitement that after years lying empty it was about to back in business.

Sadly no.

It seems the front entrance way was simply being brought to street level to stop it being used as a place for the homeless to sleep.

Shoe Zone, which closed in 2017, remains for sale., although it has recently been reduced in price to £515,000. It is a large space to sell, especially with two nearby former bank spaces also empty.

In 2019 there was again a lot of activity at the address, which is a very high profile shop front, when it looked like it would become a cafe.

Again that came to nothing.

There have also been rumours that it was bought by the NHS with a view to becoming a hub for mental health services.

But that too came to nothing.
