A small, socially distanced and respectful group gathered at Frome's War Memorial to mark the two minute's silence.

The flag was lowered at the memorial and several former service personnel laid wreaths, placed alongside those already at the site from Sunday's Remembrance day service.

They included Frome Faulklands War veteran Keith Sanders who laid a wreath on behalf of the Royal Naval Association. Keith, who served on HMS Arrrow told Nub News: " We will make up for the small services this time next year. But it was important that we marked this special commemoration. "

Within the Memorial Theatre are the crosses marking all those who lost their lives in the Great War,

The small group fell silent and the flag was lowered at 11am as they marked a two-minute silence to commemorate those who died in all conflicts.

Armistice Day marks the day World War One ended in 1918.

The services this year as part of the remembrance commemorations have been smaller across the whole of the UK due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It is also the centenary of the burial of the Unknown Warrior at Westminster Cathedral.

The Queen herself has been seen, for the first time, wearing a mask in public, when she went on a private pilgrimage to the grave.

The body was chosen from four unknown British servicemen - exhumed from four battle areas - and on 11 November 1920, the coffin was first taken to the Cenotaph and then buried at Westminster Abbey.
