Sarah Dyke, the Liberal Democrat MP for Somerton and Frome, has written to Alex Chalk, the Secretary of State for Justice, demanding a meeting to discuss the ten-year sentence handed down in December to Thomas Lenthall, who pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving on the A361 Frome Bypass.

Mr Lenthall was driving in excess of 100mph on 25th July last year when his car, a Audi RS6, collided with a VW Polo.

Sisters Madison and Liberty North, known to their loved ones as Maddie and Libby, tragically died at the scene.

They were just 21 and 17. Maddie had been due to graduate as a teacher the following day.

In December, His Honour Judge James Patrick jailed Thomas Lenthall for ten years and ordered that he should serve a minimum two-thirds of his sentence.

Since the sentencing, Maddie and Libby's parents, Verity and Jason North, have been campaigning to ensure that Thomas Lenthall spends longer in prison.

A petition started by them has attracted 41,902 signatures to date. In the petition, Mr and Mrs North describe the sentence as "a gross miscarriage of justice".

Sarah Dyke, Liberal Democrat MP for Somerton and Frome, said: "The North family have suffered a devastating loss and it must be utterly heartbreaking for them that Maddie and Libby's killer was not given a tougher sentence.

"I've written to the Secretary of State urging him to meet me to discuss this case. Maddie and Libby deserve justice."

There is a petition which hopes to get the sentence reviewed HERE which has already been signed by over 41,000 - they want to get to 50,000
