Local charities offered free storage lifeline

A local charity could be handed a free storage lifeline as groups across the Frome area face pressure to keep donations, equipment and supplies safe.

Giant Storage is offering one local charity a 20ft storage container for 12 months, along with a free van and man removal service.

The offer is open through the company's Somerset sites, including Yeovil and Frome, and is aimed at charities and community groups that need extra space to keep vital items secure.

Food banks, animal rescues, community groups and other local causes are being encouraged to apply.

The family-run firm said the successful charity will have the arrangement reviewed after 12 months, with a view to continuing support where possible.

Annie Dawkins, writing on behalf of Giant Storage, said the aim was to reach "the right local charity that could truly benefit from having that extra space".

She said: "We're not looking for anything polished or corporate — just an opportunity to connect with the right local charity."

The company said the offer follows other community support work across Somerset and Wiltshire.

It has previously provided free storage and removals to two families affected by a house fire in Amesbury, as well as support for Amesbury Baby Bank and Old Sarum Longhedge Pantry.

One resident helped after the fire, Samantha, said the storage "took away the stress" of finding somewhere to keep donated household items while her family rebuilt their lives.

Another resident, Abigail Burden, said the help had made "a really difficult time so much easier".

Giant Storage said it now wants to hear from local charities that could use the space to support people, families or animals in their communities.
