The Royal Bath and West Show opened its gates yesterday for the first of three packed days celebrating the best of Somerset's rural life, food, farming and countryside heritage.

From 9am on Thursday (May 29), visitors began arriving at the Shepton Mallet Showground to take in showjumping, vintage vehicle parades, heavy horse displays, Pony Club games and a huge range of local stalls and entertainment.

The show, which is now in its 160th year, is the biggest of its kind in Somerset and drew more than 100,000 visitors in 2024, with almost half travelling more than 20 miles to attend. Spread across 240 acres, the event showcases everything from sheep shearing and livestock competitions to artisan markets, live music, and hands-on crafts.

Among the highlights this year is the return of the Paul Hannam Quad Bike Stunt Show in the Main Ring, alongside the Livestock Grand Parade and a wide variety of food and drink options from across the region.

The show runs until Saturday, May 31, and is open to the public from 9am to 6pm each day. Evening visitors on Thursday and Friday can also enjoy extended hours at the Pilton Tent, where bars, music and street food vendors will be open later into the night.
