Golfer Aimee Sawyer has made an inspiring return to competitive action after undergoing recent laser treatment for burn scarring.

On 29th May, Aimee competed over 36 holes at The Berkshire Golf Club, securing an impressive 26th place out of a field of 60 players.

Reflecting on her participation, Aimee shared her thoughts: "I was uncertain if I would make this event. But standing on the first tee, I was already a winner. For me, it wasn't about the shiny trophy (though I would love one); it was about seeing my weakness and understanding my capabilities as an athlete."

Despite the recent invasive treatments and surgeries, Aimee was pleased with her performance and recognised areas for improvement. "My main weakness was not trusting my capability as an athlete enough," she admitted. "It's understandable, given how my body performed after such treatments. But I am extremely happy to be becoming an athlete once again."

Aimee also noted a positive outcome from her surgery, highlighting an increased spin on the ball around the greens. "Recent surgery has been a success; my wrist works again. Now it's about trusting my ability and having no fear of mistakes or failure."

Looking ahead, Aimee is focused on refining her skills for her next major event, the June Women's English Amateur Open. "These events are about experience and learning my strengths again. This week, I realised I am hitting the ball as far as the other players, sending my shots high and landing softly on the firm and fast Berkshire greens."

Aimee's journey has been supported by Frome business owner Simon Moody, who took over the Shuttercraft Somerset franchise in 2014. Moody's business has grown significantly, and he has dedicated time to nurturing local talents, particularly in golf. Shuttercraft Somerset sponsors the 12th Hole at Yeovil Golf Club.

In 2023, Moody was impressed by Aimee's talent, especially her triumph at the Somerset Ladies County Golf Association event held at Mendip Golf Club. Aimee's story, showcased on the Sky Sports show 'England Golf – Get Into Golf,' hosted by Nick Doherty, continues to inspire young sportswomen and those facing significant challenges.

Aimee's goal is to turn professional, a dream supported by Shuttercraft Somerset. To support this promising young golfer, contact [email protected].
