The River Frome is today (December 27) reportedly overflowing around the Adderwell and Birchill area after heavy rain during the night from Storm Bella.

Meanwhile the Christmas Tree in Rode did not manage to withstand the high overnight winds.

A Flood Alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for the Rivers Brue, Sheppey, Glastonbury Millstream and North and South Drains.

The Agency has warned locals to be prepared not to be able to travel some key roads.

River levels have risen above the dangerous threshold at two of their gauge sites as a result of the overnight heavy rain brought by storm Bella.

Areas most at risk are the B3151 Glastonbury to Meare Road. Overtopping is forecast from the Glastonbury Millstream and the River Brue at North Drain and Westhay. The River Brue is currently expected to be bankfull upstream of Bruton Dam with field flooding likely.

Given that the heaviest rain has mainly passed through, river levels are expected to peak over the next few hours; although scattered showers will continue.

Incident response staff have been out clearing weed screens in the daytime and we are closely monitoring the situation.

The Agency said: " Please plan driving or walking routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers which may be flooded and refer to local authority website for local road closures."
