A planning application has been put in to turn the former Barclays bank on Frome Market Place into a tattoo parlour.

The bank closed in August last year and 18 Stony Street has been empty ever since.

Now the rooms could be turned into a tattoo shop, with the Skull and Dagger company putting in an application for change of use and having plans to move into the building from their current home.

Within the application for the change of use, there are lots of bits of history of the building itself, which is sited on top of the iconic underground tunnel systems of Frome.

18 Stony St is also adjacent to the site of the 1685 Monmouth Rebellion in which King Charles II's bastard son, the Duke of Monmouth attempted to seize the crown from James II following his father's death.

The business owners have been working in Frome for many years from their other premises.

Frome Town Council will be discussing this application at their next planning meeting on January 11 - the agenda is here

The town's market place is still home to the Coventry Building Society, the Nationwide and the TSB, with the Halifax also on the main road through town.

You can see the application under 2023/2219/FUL | Change of use from bank to Sui Generis for use as a Tattoo studio.
