The annual Remembrance Sunday ceremony in Frome was an extra special occasion, marking 160 years of the work of the International Red Cross.

Hundreds paid their respects outside Frome Memorial Theatre, with wreaths laid by the Frome branch of the Royal British Legion and by representatives of both and air and naval services, alongside the Frome Mayor.

It was an extra special occasion for the family of Cpl Robert William Smith who died as a result of his service in WW2 and whose name has now been added to a memorial plaque.

The parade was led by the Frome Platoon, the Silver Bugles, Somerset ACF.

Wreaths were also laid by the local football and rugby clubs, the Lions club of Frome, Frome churches of all faiths, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and Avon & Somerset Police.

The parade marshall was Capt Barry Eggleton from CFAV Writhlington School CCF, while the buglers were Sjt. Kirk Ward and Cadet Cpl Madelyn Nicholls.

The act of Remembrance was led by Rev, Colin Alsbury, who performed his final service for Frome and it was also the last official duty, before retirement of the Frome Town Crier, Mike Bishop.
