Lucy Trimnell has been selected as the Conservative Party candidate for Frome and East Somerset with a promise to promote and support local famers and campaign to rejuvenate the area's high streets and urban areas.

Lucy, 50, is married with three children and has lived in Somerset for 28 years.

She is a Somerset Councillor and is opposition lead for Public Health, Equality and Diversity.

Previously, she has worked in the education sector and served for five years in the Royal Navy as part of the Fleet Air Arm. She is campaigning to support local Somerset farmers, promoting their great British produce and ensuring that they are paid a fair price by supermarkets.

Furthermore, Lucy would also like to see further investment in the area's local towns to help reduce the number of empty shops in towns such as Frome.

Finally, she is calling for more investment in the local roads and more support for motorists through further funding to fix potholes and more measures to reduce speeding.

She will be working closely with Police and Crime Commission Mark Shelford to reduce rural crime and promote road safety.

Following her selection, Lucy said: "I am delighted to have been selected as the Conservative Candidate for the new Frome and East Somerset constituency and I am eager to start knocking on doors and speaking with businesses and residents.

"I am determined to ensure that the people who live and work in Frome and East Somerset have strong representation both locally and in Westminster if I am elected. I will be working closely with the MPs in our local area such as Rebecca Pow and Andrew Murrison as well as our fantastic PCC Mark Shelford.

"I will campaign tirelessly to promote and support our local famers and I am committed to being a strong voice for them in Parliament."
