Staff at the Frome branch of Carphone Warehouse have confirmed that the store is closing and they will all lose their current jobs.

Five people work at the shop, on the Wessex Fields Retail Park, and all of them are being offered redundancy.

However a staff member who spoke to Nub News said, off the record, that the decision was not due to coronavirus.

They told Nub News that the business had faced stiff competition from on line sales of mobiles "for some time, so it wasn't a surprise" and everyone at the shop was being offered alternative work within the company.

They were also being offered "good" redundancy packages.

Carphone Warehouse announced this morning (March 17) that it is closing all 531 of its standalone stores, with the loss of nearly 3,000 jobs.

Parent company Dixons Carphone told business journalists that they did not: " underestimate how upsetting this news will be for our colleagues." The company said it was taking the decision now to close stores because of the "turbulent times ahead."

The mobile phone retailer has shops inside 305 big PC World and Curry's stores and these will not be affected by the changes.
