In her regular column for Nub News, Mayor Anita Collier writes:

I love to get out and about in our fabulous town and try and visit a different area each week.

For my Mayoral walkabout last week, I took a wonderful walk in the crisp autumn sunshine, along both banks of the beautiful river Frome. There is so much to see on both sides of the river. As you walk from the Chateau Gontier walkway, you can see the great work that's been undertaken by the Rangers to restore the fencing and create a fabulous area, featuring new bat-friendly lighting along the pathway.

A little further on, past the Bailey Bridge, you get sight of the slalom course used by the Frome Canoe Club, and all along the way are beautifully restored pieces of machinery rescued from one of our biggest employers, J. W. Singer & Sons.

There's a delightfully green open space further along that displays the Round House with its barrelled planters and graffiti wall. At certain points you can see the vast space given over to the Welshmill allotments filled with all kinds of flowers, fruit & veg - with its patchwork

array of vibrant colours.

Towards the end of the path is the mighty weir with its tumbling waters and rushing noises and as you cross the path to come back on the other side, you'll notice the fabulous, well equipped children's playground and skate park that is regularly used by so many families and

children.

Here, you can also see one of Frome's three sharing boxes which can be used by anyone to share seed, books, small toys etc. – such a lovely idea.

There are many welcome benches, with one in this direction featuring the most exquisite carvings of woodland creatures and the whole pathway is embraced by gorgeous trees that allow in the dappled sunlight.

The final section takes you under the railway bridge back into the area where the canoe club with its graffitied walls, and the magnificent Cheese and Grain building looming large.

I can't think of a better way to spend a crisp autumnal morning. So good for the soul and it makes you feel good to be alive. Why not explore our lovely town yourself this week?
