Times up : The Frome Town Centre date is set for re-opening
By Susie Watkins 9th Sep 2020
Frome Town Council has just announced when the road through the centre of town is being re-opened.
The road should have been re-opened on September 7 with the delay blamed on having to do extra work on the existing cables on the road.
On social media there has been debate since Monday - when the initial eleven weeks of proposed works was due to end.
One post said: " Today is the day the Market Place revamp is due to finish. Looking out of my window that seems very unlikely. " They asked whether the Town Council could ask for money back from the contractors because of the delays.
However Frome Town Council has just put out the following statement:
" The road through Frome has been closed for the Market Place phase 11 improvements and is now subject to delay. It is now expected to be open from the 25th September. "The three-week delay on opening the road is due to the discovery that some of the existing utilities, pipes and cables had been laid previously much higher than expected and they don't comply with current regulations. "These services will be lowered or protected as a result. Whilst the road will reopen, works will then continue as specified for another two weeks and ultimately the whole scheme will be delivered within the sixteen week time frame."
