Hundreds of Frome homes lost power yesterday (March 29) but while it was a big problem for all those who had to reset their internet and timers, it was NOT say the power company due to any explosion.

There were lots of reports on social media that locals had three loud explosions and police activity around Great Western Street in Frome.

One person reported that an overhead power cable had broken and had fallen into the River Frome. However the power company SSE insisted that it was an underground cable problem that, as of today (March 30), still needed to be found and fixed. They told Nub News that there wasn't a problem with any overhead power supply which kicked out electricity to over 600 homes. SSEN told us: " The outage was caused by an underground cable fault." They were alerted to a fault in the Frome area at 4.15pm yesterday following what they called a High Voltage fault on the network. "But all were restored by 5.17pm by switching the network. The location of the fault is currently unknown but is being investigated by our engineers so repairs can be made." An SSEN spokesperson added: "We'd like to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by yesterday's fault and thank the local community for their patience as our teams worked to restore supplies as quickly as possible." One post was from someone who at the time was in a meeting about power supply to the town. They posted : " There's something a little bit ironic about being in a meeting about renewable energy in #Frome and it getting constantly disrupted due to power cuts."
