Trees at the Frome Old Showground - planting to say thank you to Frome's finest

Ahead of an aerial spectacular at Frome's Showground, there was a much more grounded occasion.

In the field alongside the Frome Community Orchard, 24 Frome organisations were thanked and praised for their community work during the pandemic with a small copse of trees.

One of those honoured was the team behind Frome Community Fridge, based in the Cheese & Grain car and project leader Terri Pitts adopted a tree with her family.

She told Nub News that the tree was a lovely symbol and hinted that the community project, already winner of several awards, was due to expand. However there were more immediate concerns with news of the reported additional road closures for next weekend's Frome Independent market.

Concerns have been raised about how carers and professionals will be able to move around the centre of town when the closures come into force on November 7.

But it will also impact the stocking and availability at the the successful and much-visited Community Fridge.

Another organisation given a tree at the event on October 30, was Frome Medical Practice. The head of the practice Dr Helen Kingston had come to the tree ceremony after spending the morning working at the Saturday flu clinic.

Frome Town Council formally thanked all the organisations which had helped and supported the town, and continue to offer support, over the past years.

Terri Pitts was helped to chose 'her' tree by her lovely children, who immediately selected the one that appeared to be thriving the least - showing that empathy clearly runs in the family.
