The protest against the tree felling along the Frome rail line has moved up with a local Mendip councillor voicing his opposition to the work.

Opponents to the rail line work, which you can read about by clicking HERE: the Frome Nub News site, are demanding that the works are halted.

But they are also now considering asking Network Rail to pay compensation for the work which they claim has been brutal and unnecessary.

Although they are still working out details of how to fight the felling Cllr John Clarke has suggested the following demands:

- Ask for evidence of checks undertaken regarding bird nests and any ecology report.

- Asking what reparations will be made with regard to re-planting?

- In recognition of the ecological damage asking Network Rail pay compensation to the community through a recognised body such as Frome Town Council to support environmental and ecological action in the town such as tree planting and the establishment of a wild flower area.

Cllr Clarke told Nub News : "The community is rightly outraged and saddened by the destruction which Network Rail has undertaken without any real thought to the impact on wildlife and loss of trees. Their approach appears solely to be about getting the supposedly essential works done at any cost. They have not had any meaningful dialogue with the community or those individuals most affected by the work."
