Have you made any plans for half-term yet? Do you want to get out and about with the kids? As part of their Wild about Trees project, Frome Town Council (FTC) are hosting two community planting days this month with the specific aim of fighting climate change – the wider project aims to enable every person in Frome, all 27,000 residents, to plant a tree over the course of the next three years.

On Tuesday 18th February, the team will be planting 500 trees in the field below the allotment site on Birchill Lane. Then the next day, Wednesday 19th February, around 800 trees will be planted at Weylands and Frome Town Council want as many people as possible to help plant these trees.

Booking a timeslot online in advance will guarantee a tree to plant, and on the day FTC's Town Rangers will give a brief talk to explain how to successfully plant the trees and shrubs, this will take place every half hour from 10am-1.30pm. You are welcome to go along at any time, but please note if you arrive between slot times you may have to wait for one of the Rangers to become available.

On the day the team will have some spades available to borrow but if you have any gardening gloves, trowels and spades to bring along, these will all be very useful.

Cllr Rich Ackroyd said: "The response to this project so far has been amazing with slots being booked up fast. We can't wait to see the people of Frome planting these trees, please remember to dress appropriately for the weather and bring some gloves - it will probably be wet and muddy underfoot – and might be chilly and windy on the day so come prepared!"
