Frome Medical Practice is holding a series of free online events for young people in the town, aimed at helping them manage the stress and worry around coronavirus. The sessions, which take place in February, are aimed at young people from Year 9 up to age 25 and can be attended anonymously.

Dr Helen Kingston, Senior Partner at the Practice, said "It seems that every time we scroll through our phones at the moment there is something there to remind us about coronavirus and it can feel very overwhelming. As a practice, we wanted to do something proactive to help our young people cope with the challenges they are facing and we are delighted these sessions are now about to happen."

Brice Morgan is a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Frome Medical Practice and will be running the sessions. She said, "Young people, like so many of us, have faced enormous changes this year with exams cancelled, schools closed, lack of social contact with friends and limited employment opportunities. It's really understandable therefore that mental health is suffering, but these sessions aim to help young people recognise they are not alone in how they are feeling and will support them to learn how they can look after their mental health and how to manage the body's response to stress and fear."

There are three sessions in total, each taking place from 4-5pm:

  • Thursday 4th February
  • Thursday 11th February
  • Thursday 18th February

It is recommended that participants attend all three sessions so they can get the most out of them.

Brice added, "We want to reach as many young people as possible with these sessions. Please don't be shy about signing up. You'll need to register to join in and we will take your name then, but this is treated confidentially and you can access the sessions anonymously if you want to."
