Frome RFC 26 - 27 Gordano RFC

Report by Trevor Osborne

On Saturday the Frome RFC 1st XV welcomed Gordano RFC to The Lane, and with the Annual Players Reunion being held there was an especially large vocal crowd.

Frome started brightly and turned down an early penalty in front of the posts and kicked for the corner, but lost to line out and the chance went missing.

Gordano looked to threaten at every play, and after 3 penalties they scored from a catch and drive despite some desperate defence by the home team.

The visitors continued to press down the slight slope and scored 3 more unanswered tries to take a 0 - 22 lead at half time.

Frome turned around determined to make amends and with the Front Row of Player of the Match Dan Chaventre, Geoff Taylor and Matt King giving them the edge at scrum times they pressed home the advantage.

This set up the opportunity for a superb try under the posts for Captain Alex Mallon who crashed over for the first Frome points of the day, the conversion duly added by Winger Henry Bull.

From the kick off slick handling between Fullback Bailey Rusz and Henry Bull saw the Winger go over in the corner to reduce the deficit.

Stevan Randall was the next to go over, after the Flanker made a superb break for a converted try under the posts.

With 5 mins left Gordano set up another catch and drive to extend the lead to 19-27.

Frome pressed forward with Forwards Dan Castle and Matt Jones to the fore. With Flanker Will Button making an impact from the Bench. Eventually, after a number of penalties Scrum Half, Garrie Webster dived over from close range for a converted try to bring the score to 26-27, the final whistle was blow seeing Frome with the narrowest of loses, but can take away the 2 bonus points earned.
