On Saturday Frome RFC 2nd XV made the short journey to Bath to face high flying Avonvale RFC in search of a solid performance.
The visitors started well and after the first ten minutes had set a strong start winning their line outs and the first few scrums, however this was all in their own half, and on the 12 minute mark, the home side managed to build some pressure and from a line out built the drive and peered there way over for the first points of the day.
From the kick Avonvale spotted some space in behind the defence, the Fly Half kicking well, spotted the gap to see the Centre walk in for a try.
Frome then managed to get themselves back into the game putting some phases together and started to enforce their game plan on the home side.
This lead to some play from the Forwards and the pressure told on the home defence with Scrum Half and Man of the Match Jordon Talbot scoring his first try of the season. Fly Half Ben Eley added the conversion.
Unfortunately this didn't start the comeback Frome wanted, and following a kick into space from Avonvale another mistake by the defence allowed the chasing line to grubber on and touch down for another try.
Things would get worse before half time was up. Following another high ball which was fumbled, Avonvale walked in under the posts yet again.
Half Time: Avonvale RFC 28 - 7 Frome RFC II
Frome did however begin to get back into the game and the first 15 mins of the half was all Frome, good runs from the Forwards and support play from the Backs lead to some great phases leading to a try by Prop Loukas Ives.
Avonvale managed to get a few phases themselves and from a quick Penalty they were able to get the ball wide and managed to score in the corner with the Frome defence caught cold.
Frome again pressed and were unlucky not to add more points when Eley chipped through, to dot down only for the Referee to adjudged that no downward pressure was applied and the points went missing.
Frome again pressed and again were denied another try scoring moment shortly after with the referee assessing the ball was held up. The visitors didn't give up and kept the pressure on Avonvale's defence and on the 78th minute Captain Gordon Grieson crashed over for a well deserved try.
Final Score: Avonvale RFC 31 - 17 Frome RFC II
Man of the Match, sponsored by The Old Bath Arms, Frome went to Jordon Talbot.
The Frome RFC 2nd XV currently sit sixth in Wadworth 6X Dorset & Wilts 1 North and welcome 12th place Bradford on Avon RFC 1st to Gypsy Lane on Saturday in what's set to be another tough encounter.
