The Frome RFC 1st XV were in action in Counties 1 Southern South on Saturday when they made the trip to newly promoted Chippenham RFC 2nd XV.

Frome were dominant in the opening 20 minutes, however a little rusty, a number of opportunities were missed early on.

The first points of the day came from a penalty with Fly Half, Henry Bull slotting the kick for 3pts.

Hooker John Benstead was next in the score sheet, when he broke through the defensive line to touch down for the try, the conversion from Fly Half Henry Bull going just wide.

The away side were pleased to welcome back Winger Bailey Rusz, after returning from injury, and he was back, better than ever, when a darting run saw him cross over for a converted try, Bull adding the extras.

Chippenham continued to threaten and found their stride in the second 20, with Frome having a player in the sin bin, capitalised and scored 2 well worked tries.

Frome were lucky to be going into the half time break ahead.

In the second half Frome really hit their stride, and although there were still signs of rustiness, Frome were able to pull away with two more scores from Benstead, completing his hat trick and Fly Half, Bull, crossing the line for a try.

Frome RFC Head Coach, Jonathan Dicker commented: "I am pleased to get our first win, away from home in front of the travelling supporters.

"There is a lot to work on but loads of positives to take from today.

"I would like to thank Chippenham for the warm welcome and wish them all the best for the season. We look ahead to 3 games at home next weekend!"

Players of the Match went Hooker, John Benstead and to Scrum Half, Billy James.

This Saturday the Frome RFC 1st XV welcome Sherborne RFC to The Lane.
