Eighteen teams recently took part in a Crossfit competition at a popular Frome gym. Affinity Wellbeing was the first gym to bring Crossfit to Frome in 2015, under the banner of Crossfit UVA, and from the outset has offered members the chance to test their strength and fitness against themselves and their peers.

The gym is owned by Paul and Katherine Roffey, who have over 30 years experience of coaching and running gyms between them. Paul said, "We held our first 'Rise' competition in 2015. Eight years later and our community continues to grow, as does participation in all our classes and events. This was our biggest Rise yet, both in terms of teams taking part, the number and range of events it involved and the number of spectators who came along to cheer everyone on. Huge congratulations to our winners, but everyone who took part won in our eyes!"

The eighteen teams started the day with a one mile partner carry. Other events included weightlifting, such as deadlifts and bench press, rowing and cycling and gymnastic movements. After six different workouts, the top two female and male teams moved into a fast paced final, which was won by just one rep by Sarah Fraser and Fiona Graham.

Katherine said: "CrossFit is a fitness programme for everyone. Our workouts include varied, high intensity, functional movements that anyone can join in with and our sessions attract people of all ages and fitness levels. We love to see people from across our community, from beginners to long standing members, taking part in our classes and our competitions, showing that everything we do in CrossFit can be scaled and adapted for all our members."

Affinity Wellbeing operates out of two well equipped facilities on the Marston Trading Estate in Frome and is open to new members all year round.
